PT DI Should Able to Assemble and Produce AW-101

JAKARTA - Until now, PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PT DI) have not been able to produce its own of primary defense equipment, including helicopters. This is believed to underlie the Air Force (TNI AU) prefers to buy AugustWestland 101 (AW-101) helicopters.
As disclosed by the Deputy Effort Mining, Strategic Industry and Media Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), Fajar Harry Sampurno, PT DI is still not able to plan and design their own helicopters. SOEs in the field of aviation calls only manufacturers licensed were able to assemble helicopters from various countries.
"Since 1976 we have started to assemble. It has now 300's helicopter successfully assembled by PT DI," said Harry in Jakarta, recently.
Licensing agreement for the production and sale of PT DI in 1976 for the NBO 105 helicopter. And the next year, PT DI also do likewise for the SA 330 Puma helicopter and Eurocopter AS332 Super Puma. In 1982, PT DI only able to assemble and sell helicopters under license for helicopters BELL412 SP.
Harry added that the actual PT DI is able to assemble and manufacture AW 101 according needed of Air Force. Unfortunately, production of PT DI does not match the specifications from Air Force at that time.
"We could produce AW 101, but a different specification. The point is we've been able to produce a helicopter," he said.
In contrast to the aircraft, he continued, PT DI actually been able to design. For aircraft, the design and the work of the nation itself produced by PT DI is CN-235 and CN-295.
"For our production licenses in cooperation with Airbus. Now, we are again designing new aircraft types, CN-245," said Harry.
But he is optimistic that PT DI is very capable of designing and producing its own helicopter to realize the independence of national defense.
"It is not something that is not possible, with the full support of the government towards the defense industry, PT DI is ready to produce its own helicopters," said Harry.
Meanwhile, members of the Commission I House of Representatives, Bobby Rizaldy asked the government through the Ministry of Defence, reviewing the cooperation between PT DI with the French company, Airbus. S.A.S for the manufacture of aircraft according to domestic needs.
"The collaboration between PT DI and Airbus need to be reviewed," said Bobby in Jakarta, recently.
Bobby does not want state-owned company like PT DI makes airplane parts that do not fit the needs. He assessed that PT DI has not been able to build Airbus although the potential of the company was quite good.
"Do not just make not significant part," he said.
This Golkar Party politician judging from the experience, PT DI is able to make Bell 412 helicopter and successfully operate and care for the first-generation of Black Hawk and Sikorsky S58T Twin Pack.
Previously, the Advisory Board of the National Air Space and Power Center of Indonesia (NASPCI), Connie Rahakundini Bakrie asked PT DI expensive contract with Airbus. She considered, PT DI may terminate the contract with Airbus for cooperation between them for 40 years did not result in the Indonesian defense industry.
"We compare it with China which can produce Z8 class helicopter AW 101 and AW 139 class," she said in Jakarta, some time ago.
