SANTIAGO DE CHILE - Thousands of football supporters in Chile intend to take to the streets and demand that Alexis Sanchez leave Arsenal for the good of his career.

At the time of writing, over 5,000 Facebook users have said they will attend the march, which is scheduled to take place on 1 March in the country’s capital Santiago.

The event’s organisers believe Arsenal’s success rests on Sanchez’s shoulders and claim to be ‘tired’ of a perceived lack of effort from the Chilean’s team-mates.

“Chileans are tired of watching one of our stars work alone to bring his team forward. We do not want him to play in Madrid, nor to return to Barcelona. The truth is we do not care what team he plays for, we just want to see him fight with ten other players to get results, no longer on his own," a description of next month's march reads.

The event was organised in the aftermath of Arsenal’s devastating 5-1 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich on Wednesday night, in which Sanchez scored his side’s only goal.

Sanchez’s long term future at the Emirates remains in doubt, with drawn-out negotiations over a new contract yet to be resolved.

The 28 year old’s current Arsenal deal expires in the summer of 2018 and, despite Arsène Wenger claiming to be ‘convinced’ of Sanchez’s commitment last month, new terms are yet to be signed.

Sanchez, who currently earns approximately £130,000-a-week, is thought to want a significant pay rise in order to put him in line with the Premier League’s highest-earning players.

The Chile international is Arsenal’s top scorer this season, having notched 20 times in 33 appearances across all competitions.
