JAKARTA - Issues related placement of Vietnam rocket launchers in the South China Sea potentially trigger new tensions.
In Wednesday, August 10, 2016 Vietnam reportedly placed several rocket launchers in some of their military bases in the region disputed Spratly Islands.
This step is considered Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) Republic of Indonesia (RI) has the potential to improve the tense situation in these vital waters.
"In general that Indonesia and ASEAN countries just two weeks ago agreed statement of commitment to continue to keep peace and stability in the region. So, this is what we will push for all countries in the region to contribute to stability and peace in the region," said Indonesia Foreign Ministry spokesman, Arrmanatha Nasir in Jakarta, Thursday (11/8).
The issue of the placement of weapons in the disputed region of Vietnam was quoted by Reuters, citing diplomats and military sources. According to the report, intelligence data showed Hanoi has sent a rocket launcher to five positions in the Spratly Islands.
Vietnamese Foreign Ministry has said that the information is accurate, without giving further explanation.
