ORLANDO - Fifty people are now known to have died in a shooting in a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida last night. United States (US) authorities said this incident was the nation's worst terror attack since 9/11.
The gunman, named by officials as Omar Mateen, was killed after taking hostages at the Pulse club. US authorities pledged he allegiance to ISIS. This man from Fort Pierce, Florida, was interviewed by the FBI in 2013 and 2014 but was not found to be a threat, the FBI said.

Mateen called 911 during the attack to pledge allegiance to ISIS and mentioned the Boston Marathon bombers, according to a US official.
While attacked that nightclub, Mateen carried an assault rifle and a pistol into the packed Pulse club about 2 am at Sunday and started shooting, killing 50 people and wounding at least 53.
After a standoff of about three hours, while people trapped inside the club desperately called and messaged friends and relatives, police crashed into the building with an armored vehicle and stun grenades and killed Mateen.
"It appears he was organized and well prepared," Orlando Police Chief John Mina said early Sunday.
Authorities said they haven't found any accomplices.
Separatelly, Mateen's father, Mir Seddique told NBC News that the incident had nothing to do with religion, and may have been triggered by the sight of a gay couple kissing in Miami.
But NBC News reported that Mateen called the emergency services before the attack and swore allegiance to the so called Islamic State (IS) militant group.
The group later said - via its affiliated Amaq news agency - that an IS 'fighter' had carried out the attack. The claim did not specify whether IS was directly involved or simply taking credit for inspiring the attack.
