Vivi Zubedi Brings Message of Indonesian Muslims

JAKARTA - This abaya designer is enliven the event of New York Fashion Week on 26 September 2017. Vivi Zubedi claimed to dare to bring the collection with a thick touch with muslim nuances to be exhibited in New York.
It carries the theme of 'Makkah Madinah Jannah' which contains the understanding if all Muslims would want to go to Mecca and Medina and certainly end life in Jannah (heaven). In this design, Vivi will show the entire collection by using hijab.
"Insha Allah, the elements of Islam are thick, there is mix and match also to give the idea how the couple with abaya. Me as a Muslim wear designer who represents Indonesia also wants to convey the message of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity). So even though I told you about Islamic clothes and carry muslim messages, we still one," said Vivi in Jakarta, recently (21/8).
In the midst of Islamophobia in US, she was admitted not afraid of it. Precisely she hopes with the presence of a collection of muslim fashion in NYFW can help defuse the oblique view of Islam.
"I do not deny that the theme that I lifted is heavy, but I am confident with this, that's where the message is put forward. We want to show muslims not as reported. Insha Allah for the protection of Allah. I want show power that we are also not disturbed by the noise," she added.
Vivi has prepared 12 collections of abaya for about a month. She also tried to integrate Arab and Indonesian culture and uses cloths especially archipelago weaving. It combines various weavings from many areas such as weaving Lombok, Bali, Jepara, until Sasirangan fabrics.
While the colors that are presented not all black but also paired with another palette like electric blue and green. There are still details of embroidery that characterizes Vivi in a number of her collection.
She hopes that her presence at NYFW can help bring Indonesia's name up and become a good muslim representation.
"Hopefully Indonesia will be better known, its scent in all countries, our works are known by the world and show that muslims are beautiful," said Vivi who along with six other designers will compete with 25 other designers from various countries.
