JAKARTA - In Indonesia, who does not know gamelan, especially Balinese gamelan. But not many know if this instrument is also used for support work of world artists, ranging from movies to fill the music in the famous video game.
"The Balinese gamelan is worn in Hollywood, James Cameron's in Avatar film using the Balinese gamelan. In game Mario Bros, Nintendo also use gamelan. Only people who do not realize it is a gamelan, but gamelan is actually really go international," said young director, Livi Zheng on sidelines of 'Halal Bihalal Paguyuban Blitar Raya' in Jakarta, Saturday (22/7).
On basis of this, this Indonesian filmmaker who lives in Los Angeles wanted if the gamelan more known again, especially in international world. Through her latest film which is currently in the process of production, Livi wants to echo the gamelan increasingly in worldwide.
"The film telling about a successful Indonesian husband and wife in America, her husband is a gamelan player and his wife is a dancer, his wife has choreographed Ricky Martin and her husband has played gamelan everywhere, for example at Disney Hall, Lincoln Center, in many South American countries And Asian countries," explained Livi.
The shooting process itself is done in several locations in Bali.
"The film crew is still taking pictures in Bali, they are coordinating with me through WhatsApp (WA), because I am still in Jakarta and soon will join them again to finish the production," said director of 'Brush with Dangers'.
