Arrested Again by KPK, This 'Heavy Punch' for MK

JAKARTA - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested Constitutional Court (MK) justice, Patrialis Akbar in a sting operation.
Former chairman of MK, Mahfud MD said he not know detail yet that news.
"Innalillahi when it happened," said Mahfud in Palembang, Thursday (26/1).
He still reluctant to comment much that this news who not already know it.
Commission III members, Trimedya Panjaitan was suprised and not expected it could happen. Moreover, Patrialis and Trimedya have both sat in the Commission III House of Representatives (DPR).
"Frankly, I was surprised and did not expect if PA (Patrialis Akbar) affected by sting operation, is a heavy punch, especially to judiciary and the Constitutional Court," said Trimedya in Jakarta, Thursday (26/1).
He thinks the Patrialis Akbar sting operation could have an bigger impact on public confidence to the Court.
"There must be, now depending on how Chairman of MK restore the public trust," he said.
Separately, Chairman of MK, Arief Hidayat apologized to the public on Thursday over the arrest of a court justice for alleged bribery on Wednesday night.
“Although it’s personal, the crime tainted the MK,” Arief told.
As known, KPK has arrested MK justice, Patrialis Akbar in a sting operation.
“KPK has arrested a number of individuals from law enforcement institutions in a sting operation in Jakarta,” KPK chairman Agus Rahardjo told on Thursday.
Patrialis allegedly accepted a bribe related a judicial review that was handled by the court.
On July 1, 2014, the Jakarta Corruption Court handed down a historic sentence by sentencing 53-year-old former Constitutional Court chief justice Akil Mochtar to life imprisonment for accepting Rp 57 billion (US$4.7 million) in bribes from a number of regional heads to influence decisions on election disputes during his tenure.
