Tax Amnesty Tackling, It Just Singapore Tactics

JAKARTA - Former State Intelligence Agency (BIN) chief, AM Hendropriyono requested Indonesian government should not fear with statement or bullying from Singapore related tax amnesty program.

According to him, even though Singapore sounded in normative statement, but Indonesian tax amnesty program is legal and has the legislation. So, that there can be no element of abuse.

"Surely if there is a suspicious transaction, so Singapore police should be able to check. Here same too, if there is a suspicious transaction it should be examined, it is normative. But this tax amnesty legal," said
Hendropriyono after requested tax amnesty in Jakarta, Wednesday (21/9).

Hendro claimed surprised by the Singapore
maneuver which fuss now. Nevertheless, he asked the Indonesian government does not need to panic and affected with Singapore's strategy in implementing the policies and activities of tax amnesty.

"Why they had noisier now. If there is a suspicious transaction, so stay to check. Do not be associated with this tax amnesty," he said again.


He called Singapore national strategy will be keep Indonesian citizen money who resides not blurred, as the tactics that must be observed.

"Do not get affected. They have tactics to protect their national interests. We also have and must be ready to put the body. So don't do all kinds," he told.

Hendropriyono itself claiming he was a 'good taxpayer'. He said, his participation in the program was mainly to improve his personal and his firms’ tax administration.

“I dutifully pay property and other taxes every year,” this retired general told.

Hendropriyono expressed his relief after filing his documents and called for other fellow businesspeople to follow suit.

“Now I can run my business without worries,” he said.

He refused to disclose the value of his assets he reported to tax authorities. He only declared his wealth but said he had no plan to repatriate his overseas assets.

“My overseas assets are only a bank account for my children studying abroad and to pay the medical bills of my wife being treated abroad for leukemia,” he said.

Hendropriyono started his career as a businessman after retiring as the spy chief in 2004. He is owner of Hendropriyono Corporation Indonesia, a holding company consisting of property developer Nusa Konstruksi Enginering, oil and gas company Andalusia Bumi Energi and automotive firm Adiperkasa Citra Lestari (ACL). Last year, Adiperkasa Citra Lestari started a partnership with Malaysian automaker Proton Holdings Berhard in a car manufacturing project.
