JAKARTA - Tomorrow, Muslims in Indonesia celebrate Eid Adha 1437 H. Of course after the Eid Adha prayers in congregation, would be followed by slaughter of sacrificial animals.
However, in the slaughter of sacrificial animals, there are some things to make attention. One thing is sure of kurban animals had really died after slaughter.
"Animals do not die (after slaughter), but had started skinned or feet have been cut, or tail is cut, then the animal could die in pain and agony. If he dies in pain (not due to be slaughtered), then the meat is illegitimate (haram)," said Dr. Nanung Danar Dono, Official Field Propagation MIUMI DIY & Director of Research Center of Halal, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), recently.
Nanung explains, according to the Sunnah Rasullulah from Abu Al-Laitsi ra Waqidi which stated: "Rasullulah said, which means: Any part withheld from animals that are still alive, then it is the same with the carcass." (HR. Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi)
He also provides several ways to make sure the animals are dead after slaughter.
"We can confirm it by using one of three kinds of reflexes," said Nanung.
Reflexes, he added is a reflex of the eye. You do this by using our fingers to touch pupils sacrificial animals after slaughter. If it is still flashing then the animal is still alive. But if there is no response, then the animal is dead.
The second is to use tail reflex. You do this by holding and moving animals to the right or to the left. If the tail is still fighting, then the animal is still alive.
"But when there is no response, it means to be dead. Can also punched cows. In cows with no end nerves are very sensitive. If he were alive, he would react when the tail was pinched," said Nanung.
The third is a nails reflex. Cattle, buffalo, camels, goats and sheep are even-toed animals (ungulates). Between the two hooves flesh very sensitive.
