JAKARTA - Nihiwatu Sumbawa lined up as the best hotel in the world in 2016 by the travel magazine, Travel+Leisure. Magazine based in the United States (US) is annually held a survey for the various categories in the field of tourism.
And for this year, Nihiwatu which located on the island of Sumbawa, Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) was asked as the number one best hotel in the event the 'World's Best Travel Awards 2016'. Nihiwatu beat row of prestigious hotels in the US, New Zealand, Australia and Ecuador and Chile.
"Judging from the list of winners, current tourism trend toward ecotourism that preserve local culture. Actually, in Indonesia many hotels that implement this concept. I am proud Nihiwatu to be a successful example of ecotourism that today we try to apply in Indonesia," said Tourism Minister Arief Yahya in Jakarta, Monday (18/7).
Managing partner Nihiwatu, James McBride added, the crowning became very proud thing for the people of Indonesia, especially in Sumbawa.
"We are expanding our understanding of the general perception would be a 'resort heavenly', and has now created a destination that has a track record of geography strong, with space for a very broad, allowing guests to wander in the wild island of Sumba," said McBride.
Despite having been awarded, a number of homework still waiting for Nihiwatu. One is related to the access road to this tourist destination. Access road to the hotel which has the status of provincial roads are still bad.
"We also expect the minister come to Sumba. Because the road to Nihiwatu is a provincial road that we can't touch, so that way we can in the hot mix," said Regent of West Sumbawa, Augustine Niga Dapawole.
Continued the man who is familiarly called Niga, poor road access makes the trip uncomfortable and long. If the road is good, he estimates that just 30 minutes of travel time than now take 45 minutes.
To note, after a thorough renovation process and then reopened in 2015, can be achieved with only a 50 minute flight from Bali.
Surfing destination that was once the best secrets of the surfers, with a private beach and the beautiful waves, acquired by Chris Burch who took hotelier McBride in 2012. They then develop it into a destination where active adventures and absolute luxury combined with mismatched with elements of local culture, in an environment of exotic and authentic.
