CATALUNYA - Spanish Moto2 rider Luis Salom died Friday in Barcelona after suffering a serious accident in free practice Catalunya GP. He was 24 years old and was born in Palma de Mallorca.
It was the organization which, in a statement, reported the event.
The young pilot overshot the curve 12 Montmelo circuit during free entremientos on Friday, leaving lying on the ground motionless. He was seen walking track by the medical team, who tried to give CPR.
It was mobilized helicopter RACC, but eventually Salom was taken by ambulance to hospital the circuit and then to the General Hospital of Barcelona. All workouts day were suspended.
The session was red flagged with about 25 minutes left before being eventually canceled.
Salom had been in Moto2 since 2014 and had three podium finishes in 41 races, including a second place in this season's opener in Qatar. He was 10th in the point standings.
He had nine wins in Moto3 and finished second in the championship in 2012 and third in 2013.
