KUALA LUMPUR - A “Casanova Ustaz” has been charged in the Kuala Lumpur Syariah Court with six counts of committing illicit sex, attempted polygamy and not registering his marriage.

As The Star reported, that Mohd Razis Ismail (34) pleaded guilty to the charges. It said, Razis would be sentenced on March 7 to a charge of committing adultery with a woman, aged 40, and having a child out of wedlock with her in 2012. He admitted committing a similar offence with another woman aged 24.

He admitted committing all the offences in Kedah, Golok in Thailand and a flat in Jalan Loke Yew here between 2010 and 2012. In mitigation, Razis told the court he earned a meagre salary, selling water filters and had eight children to feed. He was offered bail of RM5,000 pending sentencing.

The offences are under Sections 23(1) of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Federal Territories) Act 1997 and Sections 133 and 40(2) of the Islamic Family Law (Federal Territory) Act 1984.

For note, The Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) is tracking down a man impersonating an ustaz (religious teacher), who is believed to have deceived 13 women through illegal marriages.

Jawi director Paimuzi Yahya said on October 25 the Kuala Lumpur Syariah Court had issued a warrant of arrest against Mohd Razis Ismail, also known as Ustaz Casanova, after he failed to appear at the department to extend his bail.

“The offence committed by the suspect is marrying without going through stipulated procedures.

“Most of his marriages and divorces are not registered under Malaysian law,” he told.

Paimuzi said the suspect’s modus operandi was to pose as a religious teacher to trick his victims.

“He claimed to be single and is known as Ustaz Arrozi Abdul Rahman and Ibnu Ar Razi. He targeted female students at higher education institutions or widows who are financially well-off,” he added.
