LONDON - Minor incident occurred when the ceremony trophies Sports Personality of the Year which live last night.
Former member of the England team, Gary Lineker was left bloodied and looking a little embarrassed after he cut his finger on awarding the trophy during the live show. Lineker proudly carried the trophy out on stage at the start of the show but moments later, with blood running down his hand, was forced to reveal his mishap.
Standing awkwardly alongside Clare Balding and Gaby Logan, he gestured at the trophy and said, "Just who is going to win this most coveted prize which I've cut my finger on. I'm bleeding everywhere!"
The Match of the Day presenter was able to laugh off the incident though, and admirably carried on reading his script .
Luckily for the Match of the Day presenter, his injury appeared to be minor and he later returned to the stage with his hand cleaned up. The high profile prize was won by Andy Murray, who helped lead Great Britain to Davis Cup triumph this year. The tennis star bagged 35 percent of the public vote to Kevin Sinfield's 28 percent and Jessica-Ennis Hill's 8 percent.
