KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysian authorities are searching for the owners of three planes that have been abandoned on the tarmac of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, as reported by ABC today.

Officials have placed an ad in a national newspaper asking the owners of the Boeing 747 jets that have been sitting idle for more than a year to get in touch.

Airport authorities say there has been no response to efforts made to trace the owners of the planes, which have racked up fees for landing and parking.

"I don't know why they are not responding. There could be many reasons. Sometimes it could be because they have no money to continue operations," Zainol Mohd Isa, general manager of Malaysia Airports, told Free Malaysia Today.

If no payment is received by December 21, the aircraft will be auctioned off or sold for scrap to recoup the outstanding charges.

The planes once belonged to Air Atlanta Iclandic, but it says it sold the jets in 2008 and it appears they have changed hands several times since then.

Mr Isa said the last known owners were "international" and not Malaysian. The planes' registration numbers are TF-ARM, TF-ARN, and TF-ARH.
