JAKARTA - In addition to affirming that PT Freeport's contract extension can only be implemented in 2019, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security (Coordinating Minister for Politics) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan propose Freeport's contract was made as the Mahakam block.
As is known, when the Mahakam block contract period runs out in 2017, it will be returned to the government. The government then handed over to Pertamina to manage it.
"Similarly, later in Freeport. If later out of contract in 2021, it will be returned to the state, then the state pointed to Antam. And Antam become major shareholders, then could appoint Freeport as a partner, "said Luhut in Kemenkopolhukam Building, Jakarta, Thursday (19/11).
Related attitude of the government, asserting the president still will never extend Freeport's contract before 2019.
"Because it is contrary to law. This attitude is in line since I became chief of staff of the president," he said.
Luhut negotiations before 2019 is said to be in violation of Government Regulation (PP) No. 77 Year 2014 Regulations made during the handover of office of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) to the President Joko Widodo was sounded, the extension of the contract can only be done two years before the expiry contract period in 2021.
"Calls for extending (the contract before 2019, red) emerged from here and there it was strongly felt. But consistently, along I became chief of the presidential staff stated it could not be," said Luhut.
