JAKARTA - The domestic consortium produced a nuclear signal detector or Radiology Delta Monitoring System (RDMS) soon. The plan, this consortium will start producing RDMS in the next year.

"There is a consortium that will make RDMS to reduce imports, so (this tool) will be produced domestically," said Jazi Eko Istianto, Head of Nuclear Power Supervisory Agency (Bapeten) when as a speaker at the Bapeten Safety and Security Award 2017 in Jakarta, last weekend.

Jazi said the consortium consisted of the National Nuclear Power Agency (BATAN), PT LEN Industri, and Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). Currently, said Jazi, the consortium is conducting trials of RDMS manufacture.

During this time, the procurement of RDMS is still import dependent from Europe. If the trial is successful, Jazi says, RDMS import will be stopped.

"If successful, we will mass production. We have finished the prototype now, but we do not know if we can directly produce it or not," said Jazi.

He said that currently the National Planning and Development Agency (Bappenas) will review the budget for nuclear protection so that the current procurement of imports is not too burdensome to Bapeten.

"Bappenas includes our program on improving the infrastructure of nuclear security in the budget," said Jazi.

On the same occasion, Deputy of Licensing and Inspection Bapeten Khoirul Huda said Indonesia needs 126 signals of nuclear protection. Currently new RDMS installed six transmitters in Indonesia.

"Now there are only six on the island of Java," he said.

Khoirul said, RDMS is installed mostly imported products from Europe. Bapeten seeks the procurement of equipment every year depending on the existing budget.

"Imports from Europe are mostly RDMS, we try every year," Khoirul said.

He said about the need for public participation to take part in monitoring the use or utilization of nuclear energy.

"In terms of licensing, we have implemented permissions online so it is easier for users, more transparent, accountable, and of course the process is faster," said Khoirul.
