JAKARTA - Warning was made by two regional heads in Papua, each from Merauke and Boven Digul districts to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) which still interfere with investment of oil palm plantations in this region.
"We ask the government firmly to the parties who want to disrupt investment climate, especially if done by Indonesian people themselves, immediately follow the law. Don't Indonesian people used to kill the character people of Papua development," said Merauke Regent, Frederikus Gebze after Stakeholder Meeting of Palm Oil Industry Development in Merauke and Boven Digul Regencies in Jakarta on Monday (24/7).
He suspects that there is a business competition motive behind the NGO's efforts to disrupt the investment efforts of oil palm plantations in Merauke and Boven Digul.
"If the industry is realized starting from the plantation, CPO and processing plant, Papua will no longer need CPO from Java and we no longer need oil, soap, cosmetics from there anymore," he said.
In line with Gebze, Boven Digul Regent, Benediktus Tambonop mentioned that people in these two regions are impatient with the plan to open oil palm plantations. He claimed would not give permission if the people there harmed.
"There is an entrance investment, the people must know the advantages and disadvantages first. They agree, the new head of the region agrees. This is the function of local government function," he said.
