JAKARTA - Homecoming is an annual tradition in Indonesia every Eid Fitri. Millions of citizens in big cities going back to their respective villages for celebrate Eid Fitri with their extended family.
This homecoming tradition is expected not only a tradition of 'cheerful'. The travelers are expected to participate in empowering the village through ideas and funds that have economic value activities.
"Homecoming, in addition to being a socio-cultural moment, but also a moment of economic improvement, namely the shift of money circulation from city where people work to the hometown village," said Director of Collection, Communication Coordination and Information National Agency of Amil Zakat (Baznas), Arifin Purwakananta in Jakarta, (21/6).
He exposed, almost throughout year the dominant economic turnaround occurred in city. As a result, wheels of economy are not evenly distributed, so in the moments of homecoming, economic stretch is expected to be evenly distributed to the village.
Referring data from Ministry of Transportation, this year is estimated 19 million people will leave big cities to their hometown. This amount will rise about 4.8 percent from last year's number of travelers And from that number, Bank Indonesia (BI) estimates need for funds back and forth to reach Rp167 trillion.
"Baznas estimates that travelers will spend their money on SMEs for various travel and holiday needs worth Rp60.12 trillion, which is 36 percent, while social and cultural funds are Rp48.9 trillion or 29 percent, while the remaining Rp57.89 trillion or 34 percent," he said.
The rest, he continued, included spending on transportation, communications and other sectors to large companies or state enterprises. From Rp48.9 trillion of social funds, Baznas predicts travelers this year will spend more than 52 percent or Rp25.4 trillion in their hometown.

Baznas hopes, Rp25.4 trillion funds can be used travelers to help various social needs of the community in the hometown. It can be realized through productive activities or social assistance.
"Social assistance is expected to be productive activities or other social assistance that empower, not encourage consumptive and sustainable culture," said Arifin.
Through the program 'Mudik Berkah Diawali Sedekah', Baznas encourages people can give meaning the homecoming as a tool for village and hometown empowerment.
"Through the alms, it is hoped that the homecoming trip brings blessings to the lives of the people around them, giving them funds not only for consumer needs, but which are empowering the community, such as the construction of facilities and infrastructure or business capital," Arifin said.
