JAKARTA - The rapidly growing and diverse economic developments in recent years, especially in the business world, made government should extra cautious in protecting domestic producers.
Increasingly fierce competition among business actors make the role of Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) to be strategic and indispensable.
"In business, large capital owners have a tendency to dominate the market. This is where the role of KPPU is needed to monitor and act. Whether through KPPU's own initiative or through the report of the public on the abuse of authority," said the economist, Dr. Aviliani in Jakarta, Thursday (31/5).
She continued, instrument Law Number 5/1999 is not enough for KPPU to support its duty. There is still a need for more adequate supporting facilities.
Aviliani highlights the case of Yamaha and Honda who have been convicted of KPPU as a cartel. Both proved conspired to set the price of motorcycles since 2013.
"In the case of Honda and Yamaha, when it comes to collaboration there is no problem, but it will be problematic when proven as a cartel, which is not to be done," she said.
As for the case between PT Tirta Investama and PT Balina Agung Perkasa who is currently on trial in KPPU, Aviliani sees thick with the element of monopoly.
"If that's the case I do not agree. It should not be done. The seller is free to sell any product. In business, essentially there must be ethics and morals," said Aviliani.
