Two Years Sentenced, Ahok Detained in Cipinang Prison

JAKARTA - Judges verdict against Jakarta Governor, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) for two years in prison. Ahok was found guilty of blasphemy.
"Ahok is legally and convincingly proven of blasphemy, imprisonment for two years, ordering the defendant to be arrested," said Led of Panel Justice, Dwiarso Budi during verdict Ahok, Thursday (9/5).
Previously, members of Panel of Judges mentioned Ahok incriminating, the defendant did not feel guilty and Ahok's statement caused public unrest and broke the harmony of religious in people and groups.
The verdict of this judge is heavier than the prosecutor's demand that only Ahok punish a one year prison sentence with a two year probation period.
According to Dwiarso, verdict has been deliberated by all the judges. For known, since the entanglement of cases of blasphemy in 2016 ago, Ahok was not detained by the police and prosecutors.
The judges also mentioned, this case of blasphemy is not related to the Jakarta election.
"This case has nothing to do with Jakarta elections, the assumption is because the case occurred before Jakarta elections to enter the election," said judge.
In addition, judge also saw that the case that is currently wrapped around Ahok's defendant through his speech is different from the writing in the 'Merubah Indonesia' book written by Ahok.
"The book can not be equated with the case that occurred in the Pulau Seribu," he said.
After the two-year sentence, Ahok immediately appealed. Dwiarso invited Ahok and his legal counsel to make the appeal note to the clerk.
"If defendant submit an appeal, please consult to your legal counsel," Dwiarso said in the courtroom.
After consultation with his legal counsel, Ahok immediately appealed to the panel of judges.
"I appealed," Ahok said.
After court, Ahok already in Cipinang prison now.In the meantime, Ahok will be placed in the environmental introduction block (Mapenaling) for two weeks.
Head of Cipinang Detention Center (Rutan) Asep Sutandar said, there is no special treatment for Ahok during detention in Cipinang.
"In the meantime, Ahok is being held as the others in the Mapenaling block," he said, Tuesday (9/5).
Before entering the Mapenaling block, he continued, Ahok will undergo a series of medical examinations by the medical team. Admittedly, there is no special preparation in the prison ahead of the verdict Ahok.
"There is no special preparation," he said.
