Indonesians Warned to be Vigilant in South Philippines

JAKARTA - Indonesias Consulate General in the southern Philippines city of Davao warned Indonesian citizens to be wary of the security situation in the region. The advise has been issued following the possibility of a conflict between the Filipino security personnel and communists.
On February 3, Philippines President, Rodrigo Duterte revoked the governments cease fire agreement with the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) - New Peoples Army (NPA), and instructed his military to fight the CPP-NPA.
"Following the development, every Indonesian is urged to be vigilant during the situation, as there is a possibility of conflict between the Philippine governments forces and CPP-NPA di Mindanao," the statement issued from Davao City said.
The consulate general has also advised Indonesians to not travel to conflict-prone areas in the southern Philippines.
Indonesians staying in the Philippines have also been told to follow closely the latest developments on the security situation in the country, and to be careful while traveling.
If they need assistance, they are advised to call Police Commissioner Wahyu Candra Irawan at +63 917 551 9400 in the consulate general, or report to the nearest police stations.
