JAKARTA - Automated Teller Machine (ATM) synonymous with money-making machine. However in 16th anniversary of Badan Amil Zakat Nasional (BAZNAS) launched a new innovation that named Rice ATM.
Then, what kind and how mechanism of this machine?
Rice ATM, measuring 60 cm x 60 cm x 160 cm. Shaped like a closet box and is very similar to a regular ATM machine. Rice ATM is equipped with electronic devices that hybrid network modem GSM/satellite as well as control and monitoring system based machine to machine (M2M) or Internet of Things (IOT).
"This is a device that can remove the rice in a certain amount automatically. The way it works is that the rice out by attaching the card Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) at the sensor card reader on the device," explained Director of Zakat National BAZNAS, M Arifin Purwakananta in Jakarta, Tuesday (17/1).
The machine that still in experimental stage will soon be installed at 10 spots in Greater Jakarta, each in the BAZNAS office Kebon Sirih and nine mosques in cooperation with BAZNAS.
Each ATM unit has a storage capacity of 1,000 kg of rice to meet the needs for 1,000 recipients. Each unit will be recharged as many as eight times in one month.
"The cost of manufacture and maintenance in a year to Rp30 million per unit. This machine is made by ITB student," said Arifin.

Chairman of BAZNAS, Bambang Soedibyo said the program was carried out considering the amount of poverty in Indonesia from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in March 2016 reached 28.01 million.
"In addition, Indonesia is one country with a serious level of hunger in the world with the Global Hunger Index (GHI) of 21.9 according to data from the International Food Policy Reasearch Institute in 2016," he said.
Rice withdrawal mechanism of this machine will be set according to the criteria which set by BAZNAS.
"One time transaction can draw rice from 1 kg and 2 kg," added Arifin.
