JAKARTA - Jakarta Metropolitan Police Command has prepared a number of security measures ahead of the trial of non active Jakarta governor, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) over alleged case of blasphemy on Tuesday, December 13, 2016.

"In connection with his naming as suspect the police have an obligation to secure the trial process. The first security measure will be for those watching and attending the session and then the location and the third will be the activity," said Head of Public Relations Senior Commissioner RP Argo Yuwono.

He added, Jakarta Metropolitan Police Command will assure the security of those attending the trial and those involved in the trial so that they will feel comfortable when giving explanation at the court.

He said, security measure would also be taken at the access to and from the venue, adding the police would station personnel at several points such as the shopping complex to assure smooth flow of traffic. Security measure will also be taken with regard to the process of court session.

"We will secure the process from the opening, the session, the conclusion and the return (of attendees)," he added.

Argo Yuwono said he could not as tell how many police personnel would be deployed to secure the trial.

Meanwhile, Attorney General's Office (AGO) will prepare 13 prosecutors to prosecute Ahok

"It starts at 09.00 pm, tomorrow," said Attorney General for General Crimes (Jampidum) AGO, Noor Rachmat in Jakarta, Monday (12/12).

Of the 13 prosecutors were prepared, he said, two of whom who had handled the case of Jessica Kumala Wongso trial. Dozens of prosecutors was also already have vast experience to handle large case like this, like Ali Mukartono, Ardito Muwardi, and Bambang.

"Ali is a former Chief Prosecutor (Kajati), While Ardito and Bambang he handle Jessica, composure sufficiently tested," said Noor.

Even so, he argued, AGO not preparing a special prosecutor to handle cases of defamation of religion. As other cases, some of the public prosecutor and the file will only bring the charges. Any special preparation will be conducted over the course of the indictment.

Including an open question whether or not, Noor asserted, it is the authority of the judge who has power. However, because of the public attention, Ahok trial session will be open as Jessica session.

Ahok as he is also called, will be tried at the ex Central Jakarta district court located on Jalan Gajah Mada in the downtown over his controversial remarks he made during a meeting with people in the district of Kepulauan Seribu in North Jakarta in which he quoted a Quran verse considered as blasphemous.
