JAKARTA - Good news came at the end of 2016. Government has added Jan 2 and June 27 as public holidays on account of New Year’s Day and Idul Fitri falling on Sundays next year.

Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Ministry, the Manpower Ministry and the Religious Affairs Ministry decided Idul Fitri holiday will last three days, from June 25 to 27. As we know, Idul Fitri is usually a two day holiday.

“Public holidays in 2017 that fall on Sunday, in this case New Year’s Day and Lebaran will be extended,” Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Ministry spokesman, Herman Suryatman said on Friday (9/12).

The government has also altered the initial plan for national leave for Lebaran, from June 23, 27 and 28 to June 25 to 30.

“Lebaran will fall on a Sunday, so people will be able to depart for mudik (homebound travel) on Friday or Saturday,” he said.

The holidays are regulated under revised Joint Ministerial Decree (SKB) No 684/2016. However, Herman asserted that the additional days off did not change the 12 days permitted leave for civil servants, meaning that they would only have six remaining leave days.

Christmas this year also falls on a Sunday but the government did not make adjustment this year.
