JAKARTA - World Tolerance Day which falls today, Wednesday (16/11) also celebrated by International Film Festival for Spirituality, Religion and Visionary (IFFSRV) and World Tolerance Award, two international festivals which focusing for seek tolerance themed films since past four years.
This celebration was particularly relevant at a time of concern given the global conditions that are not conducive to tolerance. The fact that Muslims and minorities in the United States (US) many were hit by fears and worries because of the political attitudes of US Elected President, Donald Trump, which prohibits muslims enter America and pledged to close the mosques in the US, be a signal that the tolerance among the people religious decline drastically in 2016.
"The world is in entering the dark days of civilization. With this celebration is expected world leaders are increasingly recognizing the importance of tolerance; because without tolerance of this world will be destroyed," said Damien Dematra, founder and director of this two film festival.
World Tolerance Day designated by the United Nations (UN) in 1996, hoping to strengthen tolerance by improving mutual understanding between cultures and nations. This celebration was started in an era when increasing extremism, violence and widening conflict characterized by disregard of other people's lives.
"The events that happened the last few months shows that in modern era such as this, there are still many people with a narrow mind has forgotten the value of tolerance. I hope that with this feast can remind them about the importance of tolerance in fact," said the Ambassador of Tolerance which is also the teenager director, Natasha Dematra.
In the midst of adversity, then the filmmakers international care about the importance of tolerance will gather in Bali and Jakarta to celebrate the Day of Tolerance World with two festival films above.
