FLORIDA - UFC fighter, Josh Samman has tragically passed away at just 28 years of age. The middleweight fighter was found unresponsive along with his roommate in his Florida apartment last Thursday and had been in a coma since then.
Samman roommate, Troy Kirkingburg, an MMA announcer with a local promotion, was declared dead on the scene.
Since Samman was first hospitalized there had been rumors that the two men had been struck down due to a drug overdose.
Though Samman’s mother had told FOX Sports on Monday, “There was no heroin found in Josh’s system whatsoever.”
Samman first entered the UFC after reaching the semifinals of The Ultimate Fighter Season 17 in 2013.
His UFC career got off to a strong start with a trio of wins over Kevin Casey, Eddie Gordon and Caio Magalhaes. However, he had since suffered back to back losses against Tamdan McCrory and Tim boetsch.
Samman had been scheduled to fight Oluwale Bamgbose at UFC Fight Night 102 in New York in December.
In addition to his fighting career inside the cage, Samman also wrote for a number of MMA related websites, including UFC.com. bloodyelbow.com and flocombat.com.
He also wrote a book about his life titletd, ‘The Housekeeper: Love, Death, and Prizefighting,’ which depicted his struggles with drug addiction, injuries and the loss of his girlfriend in 2013 due to a car accident.
