BORDEAUX - Sergio Ramos missed a vital penalty in the 72nd minute of Spain's 2-1 loss against Croatia on yesterday. But there are some facts that make the penalty kick should be repeated. What are the facts?
From slow motion video revealed if Croatian goalkeeper, Danijel Subasic was nearly two yards off the goal line when the La Roja captain struck the ball.
Not only that, three Croatian players had entered the penalty area before the centre-back got his shot away, which was another illegal action that should have afforded Ramos a second chance.
Given that this was a breach of the rules, Dutch referee Bjorn Kuipers should have ordered a retaking of the spot kick.
The score was 1-1 when the penalty was parried away by the advancing goalkeeper and La Roja went on to lose the match 2-1.
As a result, Spain must now navigate the half of the Euro 2016 knockout stage which includes Germany, England, France and Italy, who Spain take on at the Stade de France next Monday.
