JAKARTA - Police claim related to 37 items of evidence related to the death of Wayan Mirna Salihin questioned by suspect Jessica Kumala Wongso. Jessica's attorney, Yudi Wibowo. He claimed only received three to four piece of evidence from the police.
"The evidence that I have received only three or four kinds. It is had receipt. I do not know where the other 37 items of evidence, seized from anywhere," said Yudi Wibowo in Jakarta.
He also counter question about the submission of dossier (BAP) Jessica by the police, even though the case already P21 alias considered completed by the prosecution.
"Until P21, BAP have not received yet. It is already violating Article Article 37 of the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP). In fact, in the Criminal Code there is no mention should wait until P21. That misguided. The attorney was obliged the BAP," he said.
Recently, police claim that they have collected 37 pieces of evidence against coffee murder suspect Jessica Kumala Wongso, who is accused of killing her friend Wayan Mirna Salihin at a café in an upmarket Central Jakarta shopping center in January. The evidence apparently includes the pair of jeans she allegedly disposed of after the incident, local media reported.
Quoting Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Awi Setiyono on Sunday (29/5) that the evidence against Jessica was submitted to the Central Jakarta District Prosecutors' Office on Friday (27/5).
Police charged Jessica with the premeditated murder of 27-year-old Mirna, who died shortly after drinking coffeebelieved to have been spiked with cyanide. Among the evidence collected were samples of Mirna's hair, which is often used in forensic toxicology analyses, as well as the remainder of the Vietnamese iced coffee Mirna drank before she started to suffer from convulsionsand died.
Police confiscated the cafe's coffeemachine and equipment to prove that the cyanide was placed in thedrink after it was served, as well as surveillance camera footage that showsJessica, who arrived almost an hour before Mirna and another friend, was the one who ordered the drink.
Police also confiscated Jessica's handbag, which she placed strategically on the table at the time to obscure a surveillance camera's view. The investigation has lasted nearly four months, during which Jessica's dossier went back and forth between police and prosecutors with the latter repeatedly rejecting the case due to inadequate evidence.
Prosecutors however deemed the case fit for trial on Thursday, just two days before the scheduled release of the 27-year-old suspect, indicating that police finally obtained the key piece of evidence they were looking for. According to the report, among the evidence collected were "a pair of trousers belonging to the suspect, which was once missing."
Jessica earlier said she discarded thejeans she wore on that fateful day because it was torn. However, police believe thetrousers provide clues towhere Jessica allegedly hid the cyanide used in the murder.
Police also obtained a printout of a conversation from a WhatsApp group named "Billy Blue," referring to an Australian design school both Jessica and Mirna attended.
Police furtherobtained a report from their Australian counterparts related to a complaint made by an Australian named Kristie Louise Carter against Jessica during the time the suspect worked at an ambulance service in Sydney.
Jessica's trial is expected to commence next month after prosecutors submit the evidence to court.
