CAIRO - Egypt’s minister of civil aviation, Sherif Fathy urges stop speculating about what caused the crash. He said terrorism and technical causes could not be ruled out.

"The last contact was at 2.30am, he confirms. At 2.50 there were failed attempts to contact the plane," Fathy said.

This statement seems at once addressed to the US presidential candidates, Donald Trump stating that there is terrorist involvement in the incident.

Meanwhile, Egypt’s prosecutor general has ordered a state security investigation into the missing plane.

“When I have facts I will tell you the facts. What else can I do?” he asks.

Earlier, Fathy said a terror attack or technical problems could not be ruled out as possible causes of the crash. Fathy said he did not know where the plane was.

CNN terror analyst, Paul Cruickshank says French officials will be looking at multiple things – the passenger manifest, cargo, any potential insider threats.

“Where was this plane in the hours before? We know it transited through Eritrea, Tunis and Cairo before it came back to France – places where security could be laxer than it is in Paris,” he said.

“There was concern at Charles de Gaulle airport following the Paris attacks,” he says. “But Paris has state of the art screening technology – it’s difficult to get anything past security unless you have an insider.”

"This may well turn out to be mechanical … there have not been any credible claims from any terror groups at the moment," Cruickshank added.
