CATALUNYA - Misfortune befell the Mercedes team. Two Mercedes drivers, Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton collided on lap 1, Spanish GP which now underway.
This incident started while Hamilton passed around the outside of turn one by team-mate Nico Rosberg but after trying to repass him a couple of corners later, he puts his tyres on the grass causing a spin which sees him then wipe out Rosberg and put both out the race. The safety car is now out.
This incident certainly makes the Mercedes team disappointed. Loud comments straight out of from
Mercedes chief, Niki Lauda. He blame Lewis Hamilton.
"I blame Lewis more than Nico. He was too aggressive," said Lauda.
That Mercedes crash as the Red Bulls pull away at the front. It's like 2013 all over again.
That means Daniel Ricciardo leads race.
Looking at that crash, it does seem Rosberg is partly at fault after moving to defend his position very late. Lewis was not entirely blameless though.
The safety car is in this lap. Verstappen is second with Carlos Sainz third for Toro Rosso. Sebastian Vettel's Ferrari is fourth ahead of Ferrari team-mate Kimi Raikkonen
Ricciardo's lead is just over a second in front of Verstappen and surprise, surprise the Mercedes wipeout is now under investigation from the stewards.
It gets even better for Red Bull. Not only are they leading, but they are pulling away from Sainz who is holding up both Ferraris.
