Achieved MURI, 'Buto Ijo' Ready for Eclipse

BANGKA-BELITUNG - The natural phenomenon of solar eclipse, Wednesday (9/3) will passing through Indonesia. Some areas will be exposed to a total solar eclipse.

Astronomy Community in Lembang, West Java and named Buto Ijo won the Indonesian Record Museum (MURI) as the eclipse glasses with the largest size ever made. This jumbo sized glasses will be used to observe the phenomenon of solar eclipse in Bangka Belitung.

"These glasses are not normal glasses, but the glasses are made with anti-UV filter measuring 960 centimeters long and
wide 60 centimeters," said Head of Tourism Bangka Belitung, Tajuddin said in a statement.

These glasses are named 'Buto Ijo' as a philosophy which means the sun-eating giants in Javanese mythology. Indonesian Record Museum (MURI) will record these creative ideas in the new record.

"This crazy idea came from the Community Astronomy Imah Noong which incidentally is a group of villagers Wangunsari village, Lembang district, West Java," he said again.

The glasses use a frame and is designed to have nine holes.

When Total Solar Eclipse (GMT) 2016 across 12 mainland provinces in Indonesia, the Government through the Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar) is encouraging all regions to make the creation event, to be promoted throughout the world.
