KUALA LUMPUR - 158 passengers were safe after a ferry capsized in Malaysia's Sabah State on North Borneo, authorities said at Wednesday.

The ferry carrying 158 passengers left Tawi-tawi, southern Philippines for Semporna area in Malaysia, but collided with a barge before arriving onshore, according to the local fire and rescue department.

State Marine Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Madun said there were no casualties.

Four passengers sustained injuries though and were sent to the district hospital for treatment. The rescue operation involved the Marine police, navy, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and Fire and Rescue department.

"Investigations revealed the ferry sailed from Bongao in Tawi-Tawi at about 2.30pm and was about to reach Semporna when the accident happened," he said.
