COLORADO - Either mad or had congenital nature of psychopath, a man accused of shooting dead three people at an abortion clinic in Colorado Springs described himself as a "warrior for the babies" during an outburst in court.
Robert Lewis Dear, 57, declared himself guilty of the 27 November attack, in which nine people were also wounded.
"I'm guilty, there's no trial. I'm a warrior for the babies," Dear called at the start of his hearing in El Paso County court as released by Sky News, Thursday (10/12).
He had not been scheduled to formally enter a plea.
Defence attorney, Dan King raised the issue of Dear's mental competency to stand trial saying, "I think the problem is obvious."
Dear faces charges of first degree murder as well as multiple counts of attempted murder and assault. The former salesman surrendered to police after a five-hour siege which began when he opened fire outside the Planned Parenthood clinic before storming inside. One of those killed was a police officer. The attack was the first deadly assault on a US abortion provider since 2009.
During another outburst, Dear said: "Seal the truth, huh? Kill the babies, that's what Planned Parenthood does."
Dear is due back in court on 23 December.
