JAKARTA - Charms of Tanjung Lesung Festival (FPTL) 2017 officially launched by Tourism Minister Arief Yahya along with Banten Governor Wahidin Halim and Pandeglang Regent Irma Narulita in Jakarta on Tuesday (9/5). This festival entitled 'Sport & Adventure' will take place at Tanjung Lesung, Pandeglang District, Banten on September 22-24, 2017.
The event will combine a cultural festival with sport tourism, considered as an effective means in increasing the tourist visits to Banten province as well as promoting the Tanjung Lesung, which has been set by the government as one of 10 priority destinations to become “New Bali”.
Minister Arief Yahya expressed his appreciation on the implementation of FPTL 2017 organized by Banten Provincial Government, Pandeglang Regency and management of SEZ Tanjung Lesung, PT Banten West Java TDC and supported by Tourism Ministry.
“This festival will strengthen the element of Attraction, Amenities and Accessibility (3A) especially for the attraction. It is also an effective means to promote the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Tanjung Lesung set by the government as one of 10 priority destinations,” said Minister Arief Yahya.
According to him, 'Sport & Adventure' as theme of the FPTL 2017 with the flagship fun games of Rhino X Triathlon, MTB XC Race and International Bebegig, possesses a high appeal, considering the tourism sites of Tanjung Lesung and others in Pandeglang Regency support it, especially the Ujung Kulon National Park, the habitat of endangered rhinoceros which has long been known to foreigners and becomes the tourism icon of Banten.
Minister Arief Yahya also said the festival will be an effective means to promote SEZ Tanjung Lesung which recently attracted more investors.
“The investment value in SEZ Tanjung Lesung in 2016 was Rp171.5 billion, from the projection of Rp1.9 trillion in 2016-2017,” he said.
The contribution of foreign tourists visiting SEZ Tanjung Lesung is projected at 1 million people, from the national target of 20 million foreign tourists in 2019.

Banten Governor, Wahidin Halim said the acceleration of SEZ Tanjung Lesung development is underway, such as the construction of the 83.6-km Serang-Panimbang toll road which will begin operation in 2018 and the planned Rangkasbitung-Labuan railway construction which will start operating in 2020.
“The development of infrastructure to support SEZ Tanjung Lesung is a priority to facilitate the tourists to visit this excellent destination,” said Wahidin.
He added that Banten tourism potential is very large with 1.166 tourist attractions consisting of 344 nature, 591 history and culture, and 231 special interest tourism sites.
President Director of PT Banten West Java (BWJ), the management company of Tanjung Lesung, Poernomo Siswoprasetijo, explained if Banten Provincial Government together with the Government of Pandeglang Regency and BWJ are ready to hold and succeed the Festival of Pesona Tanjung Lesung and Rhino X Tri.
“This event is so special and strategic in introducing not only the charms of natural beauty and culture of Banten, but also the cross-triathlon sport to Indonesian and foreign people. Banten has 7 Wonders of Banten that should be introduced to domestic and foreign tourists. In this good opportunity we invite all the people to attend and participate to enliven this event on September 22-24,” said Poernomo.
Poernomo also explained that the Festival of Tanjung Lesung Charms is not only enlivened by Rhino X Tri, Sunset Trail Run and MTB XCM, but the Banten Provincial Government and Pandeglang Regency will also hold various exciting, unique and interesting events such as Bebegig Festival (scarecrows festival) and Kolecer (windmill), Banten culinary bazaar, exhibition of 7 Wonders of Banten and Pandeglang 10K.
Those who attend the event can also enjoy the beauty of Tanjung Lesung beach by playing standup paddle board, kayak, and joy sailing. The whole series of events will take place around the Tanjung Lesung Beach Club area.
