JAKARTA - The government finally decided to imported salt. Ministry of Trade (Ministry of Trade) states, the need for raw materials for consumption salt is urgent.
On that basis, the government directly commissioned PT Garam to import 75,000 tons of salt from Australia.
Director General of Foreign Trade Ministry of Trade, Oke Nurwan said the decision was taken after inter-ministerial meetings. Coordination about the salt is in the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP).

PT Garam himself stated that the import of 75,000 tons salt raw material for consumption salt is is the first time. Especially since the Regulation of the Minister of Trade (Permendag) 125 of 2015 on Provisions on Import of Salt has changed from the previous rules.

"The assignment to PT Garam is expected to enter August 10, 2017 at Ciwandan Port, Tanjung Perak and Belawan, and the distribution process to end user is escorted by Bareskrim," he said.
Brahmantya explained, from the results of constructive meetings between ministries, the salt production is down now. In May to July, it only has a production of 6,200 tons.
