JAKARTA - Since 1950, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and US government agencies have provided scholarships to 3,900 Indonesian for degrees in US universities.
Program to Extend Scholarships and Training to Achieve Sustainable Impacts of United States Agency for International Development (USAID PRESTASI), provides opportunities for young Indonesian professionals to achieve higher levels of education.
"More importantly, they will bring back the new knowledge and experience, and apply to improve Indonesia's future," said US Ambassador, Joseph R Donovan Jr. while attending 10th anniversary of USAID ACHIEVEMENT with representatives from Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemristekdikti) in Jakarta, Wednesday (26/7).
Since 2007, USAID PRESTASI has provided a series of educational opportunities for Indonesian citizens. Total of 334 professionals which working in public and private sector have master degrees in universities in US and Indonesia in the areas of democracy/rights/governance, economic growth, education, environment and health.
On this occasion, Expert Staff of Academic, Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemristekdikti), Paulina Pannen said, to prepare the nation's children become leaders in the future, they need to equip themselves with skills, insight and knowledge and develop capacity.
"The generation needs to get a quality education and excel in order to become Indonesia's leader in the golden period," he said.
Quality education for the children of the nation can also be accommodated through various scholarships through the USAID PRESTASI program.
"Overseas scholarships from USAID PRESTASI and other scholarships are very useful to create outstanding scholars and can be role models and teachers, Indonesian generation lecturers in the golden era," he said.
