Ships Burned in Masalembo, 178 Passengers Unknown

SURABAYA - Motor Vessel Mutiara Sentosa 1 with Surabaya-Balikpapan route at around 16:00 Wita reportedly burned around the waters of the Masalembo Islands, Sumenep, East Java on Friday (17/5).
Based on information from National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), this vessel which carrying 44 crew and 134 passengers burned in coordinates 05° 33.01 S - 114° 34.25 E (3 NM northeast of Masalembo island).
Reportedly all vehicles were on fire and the driver jumped into the sea (abandon ship). Fire occurs in car deck, getting bigger and can not be extinguished by fire extinguishers.
For SAR process, KM Meratus Makassar is ordered to evacuate passengers and crew. In addition SAR Surabaya office also moves KN SAR 225 Surabaya to the location of accident.
The latest news mentions, three people died and two people survived. While remaining passengers and other crew has not known its fate.
