MIAMI - Tennis players are used to being interrupted on court by noises from the crowd, adverse weather or even their opponent's antics. The reason behind a brief stoppage at the Miami Open on Wednesday was a little more exotic.

Germany's Tommy Haas was playing Jiri Vesely of the Czech Republic when their first-round match was interrupted by an iguana, which suddenly appeared on the courtside scoreboard.

Haas even managed a selfie with the adventurous lizard before the match resumed - Vesely eventually going through 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 7-5.

And result opening match, British number one player, Johanna Konta battled her way past Aliaksandra Sasnovich in three sets.

Konta won the first set but, despite being 4-2 up in the second, lost it on a tie-break before coming through 6-2 6-7 (7-5) 6-4 against the Belarussian. The match lasted two hours 40 minutes and was interrupted by two rain breaks.

And fifth seed Rafael Nadal beat Israel's Dudi Sela 6-3 6-4 in the men's draw.

The 30 year old Spaniard broke his opponent in the fourth game in their second-round match before going on to claim the first set in 35 minutes. Nadal saved two break points at 3-2 down in the second set and then broke Sela in the next game.
