JAKARTA - Band from Bali, Superman is Dead (SID) reject their songs use for campaigns President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). This rejection was linked to attitude his band which supports Kendeng farmers, Rembang, Central Java who refused the construction of a cement factory in that area.
Through his personal Facebook account, SID drummer, Jerinx provide support to farmers Kendeng by hastag #kendengberduka.
"Almost just became a millionaire. Kid you not. We (SID) just said NO to the (team of) President of Indonesia. They sent us a request to use the song (which I wrote) 'Be The Legend' for Reviews their campaign. It was a really good offer that could bring us lots of fortune. But humanity comes first. Unless there's justice for the Kendeng revolution, we will not associate our band and our songs with the President," wrote Jerinx.
As quoted from Rolling Stone.co.id, Jerinx tell if on March 22, SID received an SMS from a social media team of President Joko Widodo. Its content is a request for permission to use 'Jadilah Legenda' music video along with some parts of the song as the soundtrack for #JokowiMenjawab program.
"I am as a songwriter Jadilah Legenda' feel less comfortable if my song used for 'campaign' tool Jokowi (or politician anywhere) especially after seeing Jokowi attitude to Kendeng case. I'm 100 percent favor of struggle of the Kendeng residents. I worry about my solidarity against Kendeng distorted if the song I wrote used his campaign tools," said Jerinx ..
He also rejected the offer as a warning to president Jokowi that SID will not always agree on policies taken by the president.
"For example, the attitude of his 'silent' refusal Benoa Bay reclamation fought for four years by dozens of indigenous villages in Bali. I feel has time to be reminded about. I'm not a palace musician," he said.
Even so, Jerinx that do not have more plans yet to support Kendeng farmers.
"Maybe if there is a chance a concert in city close to Kendeng, we will try to find time to simply meet with the farmers," he said.
When confirmed, Head of Section Palace Press Media, Yudi Wijayanto said that if his side had heard of this refusal.
"I am looking for information first. Wait to hear from the Head of the Palace Press Media Bureau, he was still in flight to Jakarta," said Yudi, Saturday (25/8).
