JAKARTA - Implementation of electronic based elections (e-voting) in Indonesia appears not to be implemented soon. The General Election Commission (KPU) calls, a number of things that need to be prepared before the election based on technology could be used.

As the Commissioner of KPU, Hadar Nafis Gumay
said, equipment readiness supported by advanced technology will certainly have implications for the provision of substantial budget.

With the number of polling stations (TPS) which reached 546,278 in Indonesia would be very substantial costs for the procurement process equipment.

"If one tool costing Rp10 million, just calculated how much the cost of procurement of the equipment. It is new equipment," Hadar said in KPU office, Jakarta on Wednesday (15/3).

Not to mention the process of engine maintenance should be done regularly. According Hadar, e-voting machine condition must be certainly always in good condition. Even in some countries in order to anticipate the damage, they provide a backup machine in every polling station.

"It is important to anticipate damage when you want to use," said Hadar.

The other side that must be considered when implementing e-voting election in Indonesia is a model that will use the system simultaneously, between the legislative and presidential elections.

Hadar questioned what kind of system will be able to accommodate the complex election model, given the electoral system in other countries starting simple.

"While it is complicated, to be prepared very well," said Hadar.

Others who also have to be prepared is a human resources (HR), which will run the machine. Training and increased understanding of the engine
technologies is important because challenges and potential disruptions will also increase.

"Let us not depend on the sophistication of the tools that each time will grow and cause us depends on the party who provides the tools," said Hadar.
