JAKARTA - Has been ready in October 2016, Salawaku could finally can appear in Indonesia theaters today, February 23, 2017.
In fact, Salawaku has been screened at the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) 2016 and has won several categories in Indonesian Film Festival (FFI) and won Best Length Theatere Movies in Indonesia Film Appreciation
(AFI) 2016.
The director, Pritagita Arianega reveals the reason why her first film was aired in February 2017.
"We have slot on October 6, 2016, but a week later we got word if this film entered the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) and the status of World Premier which have main requirement is not to be aired anywhere," said Pritagita in Jakarta, Thursday ( 22/2).
"So, we would to negotiate to XXI, but it's been a lot of movie queue. Then in November, but it is not so simple too. Then we waited until the schedule empty again, and we get schedule at February," she continued.
According to Dewi Umaya, producer of Salawaku, the film was aired three times at the Tokyo International Film Festival and received a positive response from the audience.
"Many were stunned by Elco who jumped into the waterfall. They just know there are children which brave, even though that's natural. Real culture of many which unknown beyond," said Dewi.

As the directorial debut of Pritagita, Salawaku narrates the story of Salawaku (Elko Kastanya), a boy who lives in a small village in Seram Island, Maluku. One day his sister Binaiya (Raihaanun) goes missing and Salawaku escapes from his village to find her. In the middle of his journey, Salawaku meets Jakartan tourist, Saras (Karina Salim) and Kawanua (JFlow Matulessy), who later help him search for his sister.
