NEW YORK - Was said to have converted to moslem, Lindsay Lohan’s rep has told that the actress has not converted to Islam but is, instead, fasting from some social media.
“She has not converted (to Islam),” the actress’s publicist told the entertainment news site.
They also confirmed with Lohan’s mother, Dina Lohan, that Lindsay is just taking a break from some social media.
Starlet Lindsay Lohan, who has been seeking a return to the spotlight since overcoming a series of run-ins with law enforcement, has converted to Islam—at least, if her Instagram is to be believed.
The actress was spotted toting Al Quran in 2015, and Sunday morning, she deleted all of her photos off social media platforms, leaving just the words “Alaikum salam,” or “peace be upon you” in her Instagram profile.
In recent months, Lohan has opened a branch of her production company in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. Several months ago, speaking to Turkish television, wearing a scarf over her hair, Lohan said that the Muslim holy book had helped her find peace.
“The Quran opened doors for me to experience spiritually, to find another true meaning. This is who I am,” Lohan told media. She also told newspapers then that she had to return to London because, after being photographed with the Quran, she said she felt “unsafe” in her home country and was “afraid” to be in America.
“They crucified me for it in America. They made me seem like Satan. I was a bad person for holding that Quran…”I was so happy to leave (America) and go back to London after that, because I felt so unsafe in my own country,” Lohan said.
Upon learning of her impending conversion, Muslims immediately began congratulating Lohan on social media, welcoming her to the Islamic faith, and providing their well wishes. They clearly are hoping that such a religious conversion will help the notoriously troubled young woman. They also praised the former child star for starting the conversion process just before Donald Trump’s inauguration, as though it might somehow “send a message” to the President-elect.
Few expressed skepticism, but several did try to remind her that public drinking and immodest behavior, two things for which Lohan is famous, aren’t quite as welcome in her new religious community.
