LONDON - This boxer beat Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015 to become WBA, IBF and WBO world heavyweight champion. However, the controversial fighter vacated his titles less than a year later after admitting to taking cocaine during a bout of depression.
But trainer and his uncle, Peter Fury has now revealed that Tyson Fury is ready to fight and is eying with WBC champion, Deontay Wilder next year.
“As we speak now, (Tyson) is with his brother, he’s with his father and he’s training every day. He’s running, he’s training and he’s asking when I’m back in the gym. Expect Tyson back in the ring around April/May time next year he’ll be back. He’s coming back to not only get the belts, but to prove that he is the only heavyweight in the world," Peter Fury said.
.
“He’ll have a couple of fights, two or three and he’ll be back fighting for the belts. I’d like to see Tyson fight Wilder," he added.
Deontay Wilder is known as one of boxing's hardest hitters but rarely fights outside the US.
“I think that’s a massive fight across the pond. I think that would turn into a super fight. That’s a fight we want anyway,” Peter said.
Wilder has not fought since July 2016 when he damaged his hand and bicep, injuries that kept him out for the rest of the year. But he has announced that he will return to action on February 25 when he faces Poland’s Andrzej Wawrzyk.
The American has also said that he wants to fight the winner of Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko’s unification fight in April. And Fury is unlikely to reach his peak before that bout happens, so could have to wait some time before facing Wilder. But the boxer himself has also promised to fight in 2017.
“Merry Christmas guys. I’ve had a nightmare 2016 done a lot of stuff I'm not proud of! But my promise to you is I'll return 2017 takeover,” he said on Twitter.
