JAKARTA - Monday (15/8) night, Arcandra Tahar dismissed from position of Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) related to dual citizenship. Now, the man who born in Minang has a new issue about his nationality. He did not have the status of state (stateless).
"There are rules. If you googling lost US nationality, will be mentioned reasons cause loss of US citizens, one of which is to accept a government position of other countries," said Professor of International Law, University of Indonesia (UI) Hikmahanto Juwana in Jakarta, Tuesday (16/8).
Arcandra allegedly holding two passports, namely Indonesia and the United States (US) according to the rules in Indonesia will lose his citizenship when becoming citizens of other countries. Arcandra it has received a US passport, thus losing his Indonesia citizen status.
On the other hand, accepted the post of Minister of ESDM, Arcandra offered by the Indonesian government. Meanwhile, former Indonesian Ambassador to US, Dino Patti Jalal explained, process of releasing the US citizenship (renounce of citizenship) can not necessarily. According to Dino, someone takes 6 months to a year until his US citizenship status really be separated.
When confirmed, Arcandra confessed after being elected minister on July 26, 2016, he had already returned the passport and the status of his US citizenship to the government of Barack Obama.

"It's a serious problem, so the process is long. Removing US nationality is not that easy to get in and out of the hotel," said the Ambassador in the 2010-2013's.

"He should report themselves at the time. The important thing now solved this problem in a transparent manner because it involves aspects of integrity," said Dino.
Separate, after dismissed from the position of Minister ESDM, Arcandra have no regrets.
"It's been a lot of news that tells me a traitor profile, news mentioning my figure is not honest," said Arcandra.
He considers that the news tends to push the matter himself without clarifying the truth.
"I think a lot of news that is not clarified," said Arcandra.
He also felt no regrets had returned to Indonesia.
"I do not regret it, all the existing set up. Why should regret? Destiny is already set up, already established," concluded Arcandra.
