DENPASAR - Market share of Indian tourists to Asia region as much as two million tourists per year majority still controlled by Singapore and Malaysia. Indonesia just only gets 300 thousand tourist per year. The main cause only because lack of direct flights from India to Indonesia.
Already several times Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar) lobbied Indonesia state-owned airline, Garuda Indonesia to open a direct flight route from India-Indonesia, but until now no cleared news.
Erratic course this makes Kemenpar concerned. Minister of Tourism (Menpar) Arief Yahya opened opportunities for private airlines to take this opportunity.
"The number (of tourists) its 300 thousand with a huge growth but there is no direct flight. I declare only to airlines that wanted to, I'm as Indonesia Minister of Tourism promised to help get the slots from India to Kualanamu (Medan), India to Surabaya, India to Denpasar (Bali)," said Arief after opening Bali Beyond and Travel Fair (BBTF) 2016 in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Thursday (23/6).
When asked whether Kemenpar has forced power against Garuda Indonesia to open direct flights to India, Arief said he did not have it. However, forced power held it there in the form of a guarantee.
"Now I guarantee if anyone want (open)," he said again.
Related reasons uspected to be the cause reluctance airline opened a direct line of India-Indonesia because passengers from Indonesia was empty , Arief admitted it was not a problem.
"So we've agreed. If there are Indians who flew to Indonesia, Indonesia should fly there. If from Indonesia vacant, be postponed. So..it should not at the same time," said Arief.
He also confirmed that as a result of no direct flight from Indonesia to India, rating of Indian market tourism to Asia will continue to be annexed by Malaysia and Singapore.
"Cause if we have to wait constantly, will never ever finished. Finally taken by others," he said.
