VANCOUVER - Director Damien Dematra re-carve the international achievement through film Si Anak Kampoeng or internationally known as The Village Boy. This film was awarded "The Best Family Film" at prestigious film festivals Canada International Film Festival (CIFF).
In award ceremony at Vancouver, Canada, Consul Yudhono Irawan with Information and Socio-Cultural Consul Indonesia Consulate General in Vancouver, Esthy Muryanti directly receive an award plaque representing the Damien Dematra.
On behalf of Damien Dematra, Consulate General in Vancouver thanked CIFF organizations for their support and trust given that the Indonesian film won the award for Best Family Film category. In the night of the award winners present that originated from India, the UK, Italy, USA, Canada and Latin America.
CIFF is one of the film festivals in Canada, held every year in Vancouver, BC, and followed by filmmakers from around the world. In 2016 showing films over 90 countries worldwide. Film The Village Boy himself entered in the 2016 official selections along with about 22 other films from around the world. Some categories that also competed in the film festival among others: Rising Star Award, Royal Reel Award and the Award of Excellence.
Earlier, in 2015, three films Indonesia successfully obtained an award is the film Danum Baputi for the category Environmental Film Competition, Lets Play Ghost, directed by Damien Dematra to the category of Foreign Film Competition and I'm STAR category Family Film Competition which was also directed by Damien Dematra.
The festival begins with the screening of films nominated include film screenings Si Anak Kampoeng and followed by a reception and awards night. Category award given range from the movie, director and best screenplay.
"I feel happy and proud for this very special gift and I dedicate this victory to Buya Syafii as a 80th birthday present for Buya. Presumably this film to inspire young people to be diligent study in the pursuit of higher education and the fight for Islam peace,"commented Damien Dematra on his victory.
Film tells the long story of the struggle of childhood former chairman of Muhammadiyah Buya Syafii who had served as President of the World Conference on Religion for Peace (WCRP) and the founder of the Maarif Institute.
Earlier, the film Si Anak Kampoeng has won numerous international awards for best film and best director in various films festivals in the Americas, Europe and Asia.
