From Cairo, Muhammadiyah Requested to Strengthen Unity

CAIRO - Within the framework of the development of cadres and awareness program of Muhammadiyah Association to the international community, the Chairman of the Association of Muhammadiyah, Dr. Haedar Nashir shuttle visits to Turkey, Egypt and Tunisia.

During the visit, Mr Haedar accompanied Head of the General Assembly for Higher Education and Boarding Schools Council / and former Rector of the Muhammadiyah University in Malang, Prof. Dr. Muhajir Effendi and Rector of the Muhammadiyah University in Surakarta, Prof. Dr. Bambang Setiadji, Chairwoman of the Association Aisyiyah (the Association for women affairs of Muhammadiyah) Ms. Siti Nurjanah Djohantini and chairwoman of the Central administration of Aisyiyah, Ms. Siti Aisyah.

During the visit of the delegation to Egypt, they held a meeting with the Secretariat of the Special Branch of Muhammadiyah in Egypt. In meeting, the Chairman of Muhammadiyah motivated the cadres of Muhammadiyah in order to be really ready to be scholars and leaders of the future, other topics were discussed at the forum such as the active role of the old graduates from Al-Azhar University in developing of Muhammadiyah who served and defended the homeland.

Chairman of Muhammadiyah paid also a courtesy call to the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Sheikh Prof. Dr. Ahmed al-Tayyeb. Worth saying that Muhammadiyah delegation and Aisyiyah were the first guests greeted by Sheikh Al-Azhar, after his first visit to Indonesia in last February.

During the visit, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar expressed his happiness because he receives one of the largest Islamic organizations in the country (Muhammadiyah), which is equal role perfectly with the footsteps of Al-Azhar and its struggle.

"He expressed his happiness saying "I am very happy because today I receive the largest modern Muslim organizations leaders in Indonesia, where the ideas, hopes, ideals and work, which largely resemble the role of Al-Azhar. Grand Imam of Al-Azhar has expressed his admiration and delight of his working visit to the Indonesia from 22-26 February. The humble great Scholar is proud of Indonesia and said that 'Indonesians like Azhar a lot'," said Lauti Nia Sutedja, Head of Information and Socio Cultural Affairs, Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia to Sindonews.

The admiration of Grand Imam increased when the Chairman of Muhammadiyah explained the role of Muhammadiyah in approaching and handling the problems of the people, both locally and globally, as well as the charitable efforts of Muhammadiyah everywhere. With growing admiration, Grand Imam listened to the Chairman of Muhammadiyah explaining the role of leaders and cadres in support of independence by the cadres of Muhammadiyah who were graduates from Al-Azhar.

"Grand Imam was surprised and impressed by the key role of Aisyiyah Association for women affairs as a private wing of Muhammadiyah which takes care of Women renaissance, the matter which makes Aisyiyah as a unique organization in the Middle East," added Lauti.

During the meeting, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar requested Muhammadiyah (with all its possibilities and its charity work) and to be a media publicity for the Union of the Islamic through educational institutions and charitable works of Muhammadiyah, and explained that it is necessary to pursue special guidelines to be taught and published for all pupils and students in schools about the need and importance of the Union of Islamic nation. To reach this end- if the implementation of Muhammadiyah's program is applicated- Al-Azhar will be quite ready to assist and support it with all possibilities required.

Sheikh Al-Azhar also confirmed that the conflict of sects and doctrines in all parts of the Islamic world, is something that is being exported from certain parties to Islamic countries, including Indonesia. So he called Muhammadiyah to collaborate together to strengthen unity in the Muslim world, which has become an urgent necessity.

After visiting the Grand Imam of Al Azhar, Indonesian Embassy in Cairo received Muhammadiyah delegation and held a dialogue with all the staff of the Embassy and discussed various ongoing efforts, the struggle and the role of Muhammadiyah to progress and renaissance of the nation, The president of Muhammadiyah also emphasized that Indonesian Pancasila is a final and irreversible issue.

The President of Muhammadiyah had held also a dialogue with members of the Indonesian community and Indonesian students in Egypt. In the dialogue he explained the role of Islamic organizations in Indonesia to keep up with the progress and achievement in supporting the nation. He also encouraged the attendees not to be a leader with a backward thoughts.
