Suspect Sketch Shown, Novel Requested to Help Police

JAKARTA - Development of cases of alleged assault involving acid spraying against Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator, Novel Baswedan was reported by National Police Chief, Tito Karnavian to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
Tito claimed to have submitted the development of the case, one of which concerns five people who had secured. Tito said the five men from witness statements and evidence obtained on the ground showed a "negative" that the five had a strong alibi not related in the event.
One of those people who had trusted Novel Baswedan as the culprit, namely Muhammad Lestaluhu, allegedly as a security guard in one of the entertainment spots in Central Jakarta. From the results of the investigation, sketches and all the characteristics of the body shape of Lestahulu by the witnesses at the crime scene are considered weak.
"What we have is that we find a significant witness, but the person concerned does not want to be named for the security concerned. He said (witnesses) about five minutes before the event," Tito said at a press conference at the Presidential office in Jakarta on Monday (31/7).
Tito said, the witness who did not want to be identified this identity claimed to see a fairly suspicious person standing. Suspected, man who motorist was attacking.
Tito said, related to the alleged perpetrators of Novel attacks have been done sketches over and over, ranging from hand sketches to using the latest technology. In fact, it is working with AFP or the Australian police to conduct a sketch test of alleged perpetrators of this attack.
"Then we reconstruct using the computer system, so that we last got this (sketch). It may not have been published yet, because it was only about two days ago," he said.
Tito asserted, if there are other sketches that are not derived from the police investigation, then it can not be justified for the truth. Moreover, pictures or sketches are obtained from unofficial sources.
"Because five minutes before the incident, this is near the mosque. He is suspicious, we think he is a motorcycle rider," he concluded.
Separately, Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) welcomed the report submitted by the Chief of Police to the president.
"But IPW does not agree if the president formed a Fact Finding Team (TPF) on Novel case, it would take time to resolve the case as experienced by this novel," said Chairman of IPW Presidium, Neta S Pane in Jakarta, Monday (31/7).
He added, cases of crime in hit and run motive like this is not easy to uncover and catch the culprit. Just as the case of the mysterious shootings whose success of disclosure is highly dependent on the findings of field officers and the information provided by the community.
"Novel also need to be active in helping police uncover the case," Neta said.
