Parents of Rapist Suspect Could be Jailed

BENGKULU - Parents of seventh Yuyun (14) rapist and murderer in Rejanglebong, Bengkulu can be sued three years prison for letting their children felony.
"If there are proved that their children had committed serious crimes, parents can be prosecuted three years imprisonment and a fine of Rp72 million," said Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection (PPA) Yohana Yembise in Bengkulu, Thursday (5/5).
On this occasion, Yohana also held a closed meeting with seven minors were being accused of Yuyun rape and murder in Rejanglebong police headquarters, Bengkulu.
"In accordance with the Law on Child Protection, perpetrators who are still children can not apply the death penalty or a life sentence," said Yohana after meeting the seven defendants and their parents.
According to Yohana, 10 years jail for seven suspects are in accordance with the Child Protection Act. She also confirmed, for the offender who was aged over 18 years old need to be firmly dealt with their demanding life imprisonment.
Total 14 people were suspected perpetrators of Yuyun rape and murder on April 2, 2016. From 14 suspects, police have arrested 12 people. Seven suspect were known to the status of minors under the age of 17 years.
In the trial in the District Court Curup on Tuesday (3/5), the prosecutor demanded 10 years of imprisonment against seven suspects who are still children, they are are D aka J (17), A (17), FS (17), S (17), IN (17) EG (16) and S (16).
While five other suspects are TW (19) alias Sk (19), Bb (20), Fs (19), Zl (23). While two other suspects remain at large.
Chief State Prosecutor Curup, Eko Hening Wardhono after the trial said the seven suspects were charged for violation of Article 80 paragraph 3 and article 81 paragraph 1 junto Article 76d of Law No. 35 of 2014 on Protection of Children.
