BNN: Prison Officers Often Make Difficult

JAKARTA - Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Commissioner General Budi Waseso admitted during the BNN difficult sniff traces of drugs in the Penitentiary (Prison).

"For one thing, prison officers often make it difficult to conduct procedures that complicate BNN," said the man who is familiarly called Buwas in Kemenkumham Building, Jakarta, Thursday (28/1).

He told this after BNN found indications of money laundering transactions amounting to Rp 17 billion, involving at least five drug dealers are still being held in a prison cell.

In the same place, the Minister of Justice and Human Rights (Menkumham) Yasonna Laoly said it is ready to cooperate with BNN network to handle drug dealers in prison.

"We had a meeting with BNN cooperation next week to make a memorandum of understanding with the head of BNN for handling prison," said Yasona.

He has asked BNN to submit the names of those who allegedly are members of drug networks in prisons to be placed in Gunung Sindur
prisons.

The prison, he said, specifically for drug dealers with tight security and the prevention of direct contact between prisoners and visitors.

"Drugs dealer should be keep watching. Drugs is big business, big profits, not just from the outside a lot," said Yasonna.

He said Kemenkumham will not tolerate the prison officers who work together on drug trafficking.

"There I fired officer if obstructionists. Already I say briefing in regional offices and UPT this affair 'zero tolerance'," he said.

He added that the government would improve the program of rehabilitation of drug addicts, including the number of users who are also languishing in prison.
